Is the seaside worth visiting in October? Yes — if you want silence instead of beach screens. Sasino after the season is the same beach and the same forest, only without people: mushrooms underfoot, a storm on the horizon and fire in the evening.

Mushrooms straight from the cottage

The pine forests around Sasino give porcini, bay boletes and larch boletes in October. All you need is a basket, a knife and an early start — you will find most along forest roads, in dips and under birches. The forest is wet, so the flush usually lasts weeks, not days.

One important rule: we only pick outside reserves, and we clear up any doubts about the rules before heading out. Ask us — we will tell you where and how to pick wisely. And take a wicker basket instead of a plastic bag: mushrooms do not get soggy in it.

Reserves: Choczewskie Cisy and Mierzeja Sarbska

North of Sasino lies the Choczewskie Cisy nature reserve — impressive yews under protection here, some around 150 years old. You do not enter the reserve itself, but quiet paths run around it — ideal for an autumn walk with no crowds.

The second direction is Mierzeja Sarbska between the Baltic and Lake Sarbsko: dunes, coastal forests and wet meadows. If you like longer hikes, include it in your plan — it is the wilder side of the coast the guidebooks stay silent about.

Stormy beach and iodine

The promenade to the beach in Stilo leads through the forest — ten minutes on foot. In autumn this place is an oasis of calm: wide beach, the murmur of the Baltic and dunes stretching along the coast. You can count the walkers on the fingers of one hand.

After the season the sea air holds the most iodine, and a storm is best watched from a warm jacket. Take a hat and a windproof jacket — it is windy. A thermos of tea will not hurt either.

By bike: EuroVelo 10/13

A section of the international EuroVelo 10/13 cycling route along the Baltic runs through Sasino and Stilo. For a shorter trip head towards Stilo, for a longer one — towards Lubiatow, Bialogora and Debki. A large part leads through coastal forests, so in autumn the bike is one of the best ways to explore. Rentals are available in the village.

Fireplace, sauna and hot tub in the evening

After your return a fireplace in the cottage awaits, a sauna in the Stodoła barn or a hot tub under the stars. October evenings are long and that is exactly the point — there is nowhere to hurry. Table football in the barn settles the matter, should anyone fail to sit still.

Ewa Zaprasza a hundred metres away — and coffee at Na Miękko

The cult restaurant right next to the cottages: dinner with no car and no planning. After hours in the forest and on the beach there is nothing better than a warm, hearty meal. Off-season hours we confirm before arrival — just ask.

For dessert drop into the Na Miękko cafe across the street: good coffee and cheesecake, cosy interior, autumn decor. Worth coming back for breakfast too.
